were a familiar sight in every American harbor and navigable tidal flat at the turn of the century. During the 1930's steam engines lost ground to Diesel propulsion, and by the 1960's the steam units were all but gone. No longer used, a few steam tugs survive today as museum relics.

, an authentic turn-of-the-century wooden towboat is fun and easy to build. Kit includes a machine carved solid wood waterline hull, laser cut cabin, and pilot house with plank-scored siding. It comes complete with doors, windows, lanterns, steam pipe and whistle... all in lead-free Britannia metal. Railing and stack guys are brass. (Wooden display base is not included.)
